Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming professional design workflows by enhancing efficiency, expanding creative possibilities, and enabling co-creation between humans and machines. This study investigates AI’s impact through a within-subjects experiment with 25 designers from UX/UI, graphic, and product design domains. Participants completed poster design tasks using both traditional tools and AI-augmented platforms, including Midjourney, Adobe Sensei, and Autodesk Generative Design. Results showed a 37% reduction in task time and a significant increase in the number of unique design concepts generated using AI tools. While designers reported greater satisfaction and faster ideation, many expressed concerns about diminished creative ownership and over-reliance on machine-generated suggestions. These results highlight AI's dual effects of increasing productivity and posing a challenge to design authorship. Recommendations for responsible AI integration that maintains human creativity and identity in collaborative workflows are included in the study's conclusion.
