Enhancing Electricity Resource Efficiency on University Campuses in Malaysia: Strategies for Reducing Electricity Wastage Through Green Energy and Sustainable Management Practices

This study explores strategies to enhance the efficiency of electricity resources on Malaysian university campuses, focusing on reducing energy waste through action management, personnel management, and sustainable management practices. Green energy technologies are also examined as a mechanism for supporting sustainable development. This study adopts a sequential explanatory design with mixed methods (MMSE), covering three public universities in Malaysia: University of Malaya (UM), Multimedia University (UTM), and University of Malaysia (UKM). The study will first conduct quantitative campus statistics and surveys to diagnose energy consumption patterns, and then analyze the impact of behavioral and institutional factors on campus electricity conservation through qualitative semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. The study infers that the intensity of technical intervention, the degree of participation in behavioral intervention, the maturity of operational practices, the effect and outcome, and cost-effectiveness have key influences on university electricity resource conservation.
