Abstract

Modern businesses are being challenged to implement evergreen and cloud-native architectures to replace customary on-premises enterprise resource planning systems, which are limited in their ability to scale, operate in real time, and connect with smart technologies. To address these limitations, cloud-based transformation frameworks deliver infrastructure modernization, process intelligence, and AI as a service, while private cloud deployments deliver single-tenant and multi-tenant environments for enterprise customers with improved security. Leading hyperscale cloud providers — Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) — provide the foundational infrastructure upon which modern ERP platforms are deployed. SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the leading intelligent ERP suite, leverages these hyperscale environments to deliver real-time analytics, embedded artificial intelligence, and seamless business network integration. SAP Business AI, embedded natively across SAP S/4HANA Cloud, and SAP Joule, SAP's generative AI copilot, together accelerate intelligent process automation across finance, supply chain, and human capital management. A multi-tenant public cloud delivers scale and cost advantages, and business network integration delivers supplier management, procurement automation, and workforce coordination functionality within business networks across extended enterprise ecosystems. Smart automation capabilities provide the means to automatically operate repetitive manual processes making use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotic process automation. Legacy system migration utilities provide sequential means to extract and remediate deprecated components through discovery, configuration, testing, deployment, and optimization phases. Commonly used digital transformation frameworks highlight culture, technology, strategy, organization, customer, and human capital as the primary change dimensions. Cloud-based enterprise resource planning is an important step in the digital transformation journey as businesses innovate while continuing operations.
