Research on the Virtualization and Innovative Design of Traditional Art in the Context of Digital Art Inheritance

Given the double trend of digitalisation in cultural heritage and the rapid changes in digital art, the inheritance of traditional art is now moving away from physical preservation towards virtualisation, mediation and creative redesign. This paper studies how to virtualise traditional arts without losing their cultural connotations and how to apply the new design practice of virtualised resources. Based on digital heritage theory, information theory and design semiotics, the three-level virtualisation framework of a resource layer, a technology layer and an application layer is first constructed in this paper. A quantitative evaluation system is then built to integrate cultural information entropy, colour-difference measurement, style-feature similarity, and an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) weighting model, and thus the extent of authentic preservation and the quality of innovative transformation can be measured. Based on the above, an original Design Method is proposed and applied to the virtual redesign of three types of traditional arts: paper-cutting, shadow puppetry and ceramics. A controlled experiment was conducted over eight weeks on 120 participants to compare a virtualised innovative Design scheme with a traditional static display scheme. Based on the above results, the virtualised scheme has improved cultural understanding, interactivity, usability and willingness-to-share compared with the traditional method, and maintained a high sense of authenticity. Based on the above, Virtualisation, when limited by quantitative authenticity indicators and led by narrative and participatory design, can be used to create a living inheritance of traditional art rather than just technical reproduction. The results provide theoretical support and a reference for practice in digital heritage and museum communication, art and design education, etc.
