Abstract

Over the course of the last ten years, India has experienced a meteoric rise in the use of digital payment methods, which has been fuelled by technology breakthroughs, efforts taken by the government, and developments in consumer behaviour. Within the context of India, this study investigates the factors that influence the adoption of digital payment methods across a wide range of demographic and regional divisions. The research identifies significant variables such as the proliferation of smartphones, accessibility to the internet, financial literacy, and confidence in digital ecosystems. It highlights these major drivers by drawing on both primary and secondary data. In addition, the data reveals significant geographical differences, with urban areas exhibiting greater adoption rates in comparison to rural parts. This may be due to the fact that metropolitan areas face hurdles in terms of infrastructure and different socio-economic dynamics. In addition, the research investigates the preferences of consumers for particular payment platforms, the considerations that drive them to embrace these platforms, and the obstacles that they face, such as worries about security and a lack of digital infrastructure. The findings provide policymakers and enterprises that specialise in financial technology insights that may be put into action to achieve the goal of bridging the digital gap and improving the inclusiveness of digital payment systems. This will ensure that growth is distributed fairly across the country. The purpose of this article is to highlight the significant significance that regional dynamics and tailored tactics play in determining the future of digital payments in India.
