Employee Trust in Generative AI: Differences in Organizational Commitment and Engagement Across Employee Groups

The increasing adoption of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the workplace has raised important questions about how employee trust in AI relates to engagement and organizational commitment. The study examined the relationships among trust in GenAI, employee engagement, and organizational commitment using secondary quantitative data. Data were analyzed in IBM SPSS Statistics 27 using reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, independent-samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression. The study measures demonstrated good to excellent reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha values ranging from .811 to .945. Trust in GenAI was positively associated with organizational commitment (r = .371, p < .001) and employee engagement (r = .470, p < .001). Employee engagement was also positively related to organizational commitment (r = .406, p < .001). No significant differences were found across profession, education, or AI-tool groups, while gender differences were significant only for organizational commitment. The regression model explained 24% of the variance in organizational commitment, with employee engagement emerging as the strongest predictor, followed by trust in GenAI and gender. The findings highlight the importance of trust and engagement in supporting positive employee attitudes in AI-enabled workplaces.
