Abstract

Coping skills are among the resources individuals mobilize when facing stressful situations; for women, these skills can be linked to their capacity to engage and sustain involvement in collective spaces. This study aimed to examine the connection between coping skills and participation in collective occupations among women from the Norte de Santander region. A cross-sectional diagnostic study was conducted with 92 women residing in Pamplona, Pamplonita, and Mutiscua. Data were gathered using a collective occupations questionnaire and a 67-item coping instrument adapted from the COPE scale. Analyses included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, chi-square tests, Multiple Correspondence Analysis, and cluster analysis. Results revealed significant associations between avoidant coping and variables such as actual or perceived meaningful participation, a preference for working alone, educational level, and intimate partner violence; meanwhile, active coping was mediated by social resources and modes of participation. These findings are significant for the fields of Occupational Therapy and Psychology, as they offer a basis for establishing personal, social, familial, and community strategies to enrich participation, social bonds, and collective occupations.
