Abstract

This study has discussed risk and crisis dynamics in construction projects in Free Zones in Jordan. These projects are subjected to recurring internal and external risks that impact cost, time, and quality. This problem has rarely been addressed in previous studies. This study aims to determine the causes and levels of risks and to determine how risk management can affect the success of a project. The study used an analytical descriptive methodology using a questionnaire distributed to 122 participants and 8 case studies. The data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS. The results indicated that risk management had a significant impact on the success of the project, as indicated in 43.3% of the variance. The strongest predictors were risk evaluation and response. Similarly, case studies verified the effects of environmental risks, design errors, permit restrictions, and weak coordination. The study suggests using more powerful risk assessment, dedicated risk-management departments, improved planning, and quicker response protocols. The findings imply that systematic management of risks can enhance the performance of a project in a free-zone construction setting.
